Call for Papers
AALS Section on Nonprofit Law and Philanthropy Program at the AALS Annual Meeting, Jan. 4-7, 2013 in New Orleans
NONPROFITS AND SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
The AALS Section on Nonprofit Law and Philanthropy invites you to present a paper on a legal topic addressing the emerging role of social enterprises in what has traditionally been the nonprofit sector. At least two panelists will be chosen through the call; two other solicited panelists will be Melanie Leslie (Cardozo) and Richard Schmalbeck (Duke).
Presentations might address: new forms of organization for social enterprises; the legal rules that bind social enterprises, their leaders, or managers; the legal implications of social enterprise financing schemes; the interaction between social enterprises and traditional nonprofit organizations; clinical opportunities to serve social enterprises; or any other topic addressing legal questions raised by enterprises pursuing public or social purposes using business means or methods.
To submit your proposal, please email a short (one or two paragraph) abstract of your intended paper to dana.brakman@brooklaw.edu prior to April 16, 2012. Please note on your abstract if it is being submitted by a junior faculty member, who has been teaching for seven years or less, as priority will be given to work by junior scholars.
Selections should be made by the Executive Committee this Spring, but in any event not later than September 10, 2012. If you have any questions, please send them to Dana Brakman Reiser, at the above address.
